I'm Amy Hutchins, a NYC-based, classically-trained professional actor and audiobook narrator (pseudonym Amelia Hugh) with a passion for playing compelling characters either on stage or on the mic.
Originally from Maryland, I'm a professional actor, singer and accent nerd. I love performing in language-based plays, most notably gender-bending Shakespeare. I especially geek out when I need to learn a new dialect for a role, like, Welsh, Scottish, Polish, or Australian.
I'm fluent in Spanish and I have a knack for picking up languages (like basic Italian) which comes in handy whenever I travel. I've performed lines in Polish, Welsh, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and Amharic.
All of my audiobooks are under my pseudonym Amelia Hugh, and I’ve played everything from international detectives to young adult Fantasy heroes to time-traveling romantics. My voice has been described as velvety, buoyant, confident, and sweet. I also play Dr. Monica Anders in GZM Shows' Six Minutes, the most downloaded family audio drama podcast in history.
When I'm not on stage or in the booth, I enjoy cuddling with my Sphynx cats (Rye and Celia), cooking, and traveling. I've always had the traveling bug.
I was a foreign exchange student twice: once in high school in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, and then in college in Caracas, Venezuela at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. Living with host families in cultures so unlike my own broadened my view of the world, taught me to have an open mind, and made me realize how much we actually have in common. These unforgettable experiences help me view all characters I play as real and relatable people.
Here are a couple of photos showing what I love to do most: acting/singing, gender-bending Shakespeare, and VO/Audiobook narration.
